IN GENERAL
In the aftermarket, our air suspensions are some of the best. We who are behind the company all drive Tesla (S and X), and have as needed switched to Vigor® air struts, with good experience. For Tesla S, our air struts fits all pre-facelift 2012-16 and facelift 2016-21 versions, with air suspension type standard, plus and adaptive. For Tesla X, we supply the standard and adaptive types front and rear 2015-21 models. Updated stock status can be found in our online store.
STANDARD, SMART, PLUS OR ADAPTIVE
Most Tesla cars have air suspension type standard, or smart as it was also labelled. It provides ability to manually adjust the height of the car through the vehicle's control screen. The GPS position of each adjustment is saved automatically by the vehicle, but any deleting must be done manually.Until April 2015 for the Tesla S, some air strut types on vehicles such as the P85+ and P85D+ were named as plus. This mostly referred to stiffer wheel suspension rather than specific air struts. So a standard or smart air spring can replace a plus one, without any significant deterioration in quality. However, it cannot be ruled out that a different set pressure or a stronger metal spring inside the closed shock absorber, helps to make the plus variants somewhat stiffer. A few P85D+ customers have also experienced the Vigor® air struts as slightly softer. However, sales of about a hundred of this air strut type since 2021 without any returns, indicate that this is a marginal problem. If you still want to go for the original ones from Tesla, buy them at a service center. Unfortunately, there are a lot of fake products out there, where «original» labels just are put on in Asia.
A new type of air stuts came with the adaptive air suspension module, in 2019 for the S and X models. The more advanced technology, with suspension dampening and fully automatic height adjustments, gave something qualitatively new.
You can, in most cases, find out what type or air suspension you have, by going to 'Software' in the on-screen menu, tap on 'More vehicle information' in the middle of the page, and look for 'Air suspension type'.
AVOID MISTAKES
It is important that you check the original spare part number. Tesla has used many subcontractors (OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer), such as Bilstein, Continental and Firestone. This means that there are a number of spare part numbers and OEM references that fit our air suspensions. Below you find an overview
